Bauhaus Architecture

Harry Sidler was an Australian architect who was influenced by Bauhaus. There are a number of his buildings in Canberra with the Edmund Barton Building being a well known one. There are also several residences in Canberra that he has designed including this one in Deakin.

This house still exists today.

11 Northcote Crescent Today

You can see the Bauhaus influence in this building by its use of simplified and functional design. The house has very clean lines and lacks the complexity of design that can bee seen in the houses surrounding it. The roof is flat and there are no cornices or eaves. The living areas make use of open spaces with large windows. Even the plain colours of this house are in sympathy with typical Bauhaus buildings.
